On Coverage Bounds of Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Networks

چکیده
In this paper, we develop methods to estimate the network coverage of a TTL-bound query packet undergoing flooding on an unstructured p2p network. The estimation based on the degree distribution of the networks, reveals that the presence of certain cycleforming edges, that we name as cross and back edges, reduces the coverage of the peers in p2p networks and also generate a large number of redundant messages, thus wasting precious bandwidth. We therefore develop models to estimate the back/cross edge probabilities and the network coverage of the peers in the presence of these back and cross edges. Extensive simulation is done on random, power-law and Gnutella networks to verify the correctness of the model. The results highlight the fact that for real p2p networks, which are large but finite, the percentage of back/cross edges can increase enormously with increasing distance from a source node, thus leading to huge traffic redundancy.

A study on the redundancy of flooding in unstructured p2p networks
In this work we consider flooding, a fundamental mechanism for network discovery and query routing, in unstructured peer-to-peer networks. Flooding has well known properties such as fast responses and quick network coverage but at the same time it suffers from high overheads due to unnecessarily generated traffic (duplicate messages). While there has been a significant amount of research on str...
متن کاملA Novel Caching Strategy in Video-on-Demand (VoD) Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks Based on Complex Network Theory
The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...

متن کاملShortcoming, problems and analytical comparison for flooding-based search techniques in unstructured P2P networks
Peer-to-Peer networks attracted a significant amount of interest because of their capacity for resource sharing and content distribution. Content distribution applications allow personal computers to function in a coordinated manner as a distributed storage medium by contributing, searching, and obtaining digital content. Searching in unstructured P2P networks is an important problem, which has...
متن کاملA Genetic Programming-based trust model for P2P Networks
Abstract— Peer-to-Peer ( P2P ) systems have been the center of attention in recent years due to their advantage . Since each node in such networks can act both as a service provider and as a client , they are subject to different attacks . Therefore it is vital to manage confidence for these vulnerable environments in order to eliminate unsafe peers . This paper investigates the use of genetic ...
